焦亚陶罗港（GIOIA TAURO）位于意大利本岛西海岸（概位：38-30N 015-53E），MESSINA海峡北约15海里，是一个人工挖掘的狭长港口。港池长约1.5海里，中段宽约0.1海里，两头有0.2～0.3海里宽的掉头区，港池不同泊位水深在6米-14米之间。泊位都位于内陆一侧，均为较现代化的集装箱码头；码头离水面较高，约4.2米±0.6 米。码头的尽头横向有一约100米长的滚装船码头，前后有放跳板的专用的斜坡开口，开口底部高度为3.2米±0.6米。由于是斜坡，因此可适应跳板不同高度的滚装船，但船长超过100米、跳板较低的滚装船只能左舷靠码头，利用正中艉跳装卸车辆。

　　焦亚陶罗港（GIOIA TAURO）防波堤外水都很深，无锚地抛锚，船舶一般在离防波堤5海里外漂航。GIOIA TAURO引水站位于入口处正西约1海里处。总吨超过15000以上船舶，如果需要穿越MESSINA 海峡的话，须强制引水。北上船须提前12小时用传真向PILOT MESSINA SUD 申请引水，抵MESSINA海峡引水站前2小时，用VHF 16，12 频道再联系，抵引水站前1小时再次报告；同时该海峡设有交管站，抵分隔带前5海里需向相应的交管站报告（北上船用16，13频道，南下船用16，14频道），海峡的引水员离船前会用9频道向GIOIA TAURO 报告，获取有关进港信息，船舶抵港前1小时再次联系。与GIOIA TAURO 有关方联系主要用VHF9，16频道。同样，离开GIOIA TAURO 需穿越MESSINA海峡的话，港口引水也会帮助联系MESSINA 海峡引水。

　　同时，焦亚陶罗港（GIOIA TAURO）有《SHIP CHECK-LIST BERTHED IN GIOIA TAURO HARBOUR》，港规共26项，其中包括在港期间VHF 16 ，09 频道24小时值守、前后备好应急拖缆、港内不许用雷达、正确放置老鼠挡、正确放置舷梯等等，靠港后让船方对照确认。靠港期间港方经常核查各轮的执行情况，如达不到要求将被罚款。据代理介绍，大部分船都会有这样那样被认为不合要求的地方而被罚款。
