位于也门（全称：也门共和国THE REPUBLIC OF YEMEN）西南沿海亚丁湾的西北岸，扼红海（RED SEA）与印度洋的出入口，是欧洲、红海至亚洲、太平洋之间的交通要冲，地理位置非常重要。它也是也门的最大海港，并有世界第二大加油港之称，又是一个主要从事转口贸易的港口，港口距国际机场约9km，有定期航班飞往世界各地。
亚丁港属热带沙漠气候，盛行西南风，炎热干燥，最高曾达45.7℃。5～8月会出现沙暴（SAND STORM），能见度极差。全年平均降雨量约300mm，平均潮高：高高潮2m，低低潮0.5m。
亚丁港分内港和油港：（1）内港在亚丁半岛的西北部，主要码头泊位有27个，水深12.5m，可同时停靠30多艘万吨级船舶，其中包括2个集装箱泊位，岸线长900m，水深11m；（2）油港在小亚丁半岛的东北部，有4个泊位，最大可靠6.5万载重吨的油船。大船锚地水深达16.5m。装卸设备有各种岸吊、门吊、浮吊、集装箱吊及滚装设施等，其中门吊最大起重能力为40吨。拖船的功率为1471kW。另有海底管道供装卸原泊使用。亚丁港是一个重要的加油港，有水下油管直通岸上，能同时为15艘海船加油上水。目前亚丁炼油厂每年炼油800万吨左右，能为500艘巨轮提供燃料，所以亚丁又成为供应国际远洋船舶燃料的重要基地之一。该港自由贸易区始建于1970年，面积5.5万平方米。年货物吞吐能力约1500万吨，集装箱吞吐能力约5万TEU。主要出口货物有皮革、咖啡、盐、石油制品、鱼类、棉花、树胶及杂货等，进口货物主要有谷物、棉布、丝绸、家禽、金属、原油及各种食品等。在节假日期间照常装卸作业。
