位于约旦（全称：约旦哈希姆王国 THE HASHEMITE KINGDOM OF JORDAN）西南沿海亚喀巴湾的顶端东侧，西距埃拉特（ELAT）港3n mile，南距沙特阿拉伯边界约12n mile。亚喀巴是约旦唯一的海港，也是一个中转港口。70年代随着约旦磷灰石的开发，水泥、化肥和炼油工业的发展而迅速发展。港口距机场约11km，有定期航班飞往安曼（AMMAN）。 该港属热带沙漠气候，盛行北─东北风。年平均气温，夏季最高40℃，冬季最低10℃。全年平均降雨量约30mm。平均潮高：高潮为0.8m，低潮为0.2m，最大潮差达1.2m。 港区主要码头泊位有18个，其中磷酸盐泊位可泊10万载重吨散货船舶；集装箱泊位有2个，岸线长达500m，可泊7万载重吨的集装箱船；新油码头最大可靠30万载重吨的超级油船。装卸设备有各种岸吊、可移式吊、集装箱吊、跨运车、牵引车及滚装设施等，其中可移式吊最大起重能力90屯。港区货物堆场面积达88万m∧（含集装箱堆场），仓库4.1万m∧。集装箱堆场可堆7000个满箱和5000个空箱。装卸速率：钾碱每小时2200吨、化肥每小时2000吨，原油每小时8000吨。该港自由贸易区始建于1973年。1992年集装箱吞量为9.9万TEU，年货物吞吐能力约3000万吨。主要出口货物为磷酸盐、钾碱、水泥及化肥制品等，进口货物主要有粮食、化工原料及杂货等，其中大部分属中转货物，主要是伊拉克的货物。
